Prepare your Windows PC

Not using Windows Hello?

You can set up your YubiKey 5 or create a Mobile security key / passkey to authenticate with Passwordless.

Enable fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN with Windows Hello

  1. Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in
  2. Select one or more sign-in options to set up: facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, or a PIN.
  3. Select Set up, and follow the on-screen prompts
  4. After setting up your biometrics (face or fingerprint) or prior to setting up a PIN, you may be asked to authenticate. Follow the on-screen prompts for Duo authentication. If you receive a "Windows Security - Select a Certificate" prompt, select OK, and continue to follow any on-screen prompts.

Prepare your Mac

Not using Touch ID?

You can set up your YubiKey 5 or create a Mobile security key / passkey to authenticate with Passwordless.

Follow these steps to get started

Step 1: Enable Touch ID

  1. Open System Settings > Touch ID & Password
  2. Select Add Fingerprint and follow the prompts on your screen

Step 2: Review browser requirements

If you use multiple browsers, you must enroll each one individually in Passwordless, unless iCloud Keychain is enabled.

Passwordless works best with Google Chrome. If you would like to use Passwordless with Edge, Firefox, or Safari, enable and log in to iCloud Keychain. You can find instructions on setting up an Apple ID for Cisco devices.

Prepare your Linux device

Select & prepare an authentication method

Option 1: YubiKey 5*

  1. If you have a YubiKey, make sure you are using version 5. To check your version number, download the YubiKey Manager and validate the version number.
  2. Then, open the instructions to prepare your YubiKey 5 for Passwordless.

*If you don't have a YubiKey 5, follow instructions on how to order a YubiKey

Option 2: Mobile security key/ passkey

You can save a security key/ passkey on your mobile device as your Passwordless authentication method.

  1. If you're not viewing this page in Chrome, please copy the address and open in it in Chrome.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your laptop and mobile device. Mobile passkeys will only be sent when your phone is in proximity to your Cisco laptop.
  3. On this page, select the checkbox in the section labeled For a successful set up, please confirm, and select Next.
